Reflection on Today's Reading ("Don't Worry")
8th Sunday in Ordinary Time, March 2, 2014
By Jim J. McCrea
Reading is Matthew 6:24-34
God is all powerful and all loving. If we are worried or afraid of the future, we do not quite believe that. That fear shows a lack of faith that we must still acquire.
God is all loving, so He wishes what is best for us - God is all wise, so He knows what is best for us - God is all powerful, so He can do what is best for us.
If we love and trust God He will always do what is best for us. Nothing happens to us without the permission of God, so that even if evils come into our life we can know that it is to bring us an ultimate good.
But the final good is heaven, which God is primarily interested in securing for us - and He wishes to secure for us as wonderful a heaven as possible.
All things come to us by the will of God, and are ultimately oriented to that.
